Using your own domain to send mails and host survey
It is possible to use your own domain for sending mails and hosting the survey URL. To prevent phishing we recommend using a company domain for both mailing and hosting the survey. Example: When you receive mails from 'yourdomain.nl' with links to 'expoints.nl' this could be marked as phishing and cause blacklisting.
There are a few questions that need to be answered before starting an implementation.
-
First of all, what is the sender emailadress going to be?
Most of our customers choose an address like youropinion@feedback.<customerdomain>.nl It is also possible to use an address like feedback@<customerdomain>.nl but we prefer using an emailadress with the same domain as the survey.
If you use two seperate domains the mail will contain links to a survey on domain feedback.<customerdomain>.nl while the mail comes from @<customerdomain>.nl. From a technical point of view these are different domains which again can be seen as phishing. On top of this implementing a different domain for mails and surveys means more settings to define. SPF, DKIM and others are not seperated anymore and will therefore contain information about Expoints and other partners combined. -
On what domain will the survey be hosted?
In a default setting a survey is hosted on the Expoints domain (<customer#>.expoints.nl). But in this case we will need a domain like feedback.<customerdomain.nl>. In order to accomplish the implementation later on, you need to create a CNAME DNS record to <customer#>.expoints.nl and deliver a SSL certificate based on a CSR provided by us. -
Which replyaddress has to be used when customers reply to the mail?
This could be feedback@<customerdomain>.nl. Be advised that mails sent to this inbox need to be forwarded to Expoints, whereas Expoints handles these mails. Another possibility is to use a no-reply address instead, however we do not recommed no-reply adresses. -
Who can be contacted for what?
Who can we contact for the certificate and DNS changes? To ensure quality and speed we would like to have technical contacts so we can address them directly.
There are two possibilities with regards to mailing with your own company domain;
- either use your own SMTP server to send mails from your domain. Expoints will send all mails to your SMPT server and you have to forward them. Therefore statistics regarding mailings will not be accurate as Expoints can not register bouncers for example.
-
or allow Expoints to send mails form your domain.
When Expoints handles the mailing, an SPF record needs to be created with the Expoints mailservers (include mailservers.expoints.nl)
We can configure DKIM, which selector is wished for?
Contacts
In order to start implementing mailing and hosting surveys on company domains we would like to know who are the following contact persons:- General communication Expoints (your experience manager)
- General communication within your company
- Who can give out certificates
- Who can handle DNS changes
For questions you can either contact your Expoints Experience Manager (if you have none, mail to service@expoints.nl). If you have technical questions you can mail us directly at expoints@dataleaf.nl, please include your Expoints Experience Manager in the mail thread.
